How To Choose A Domain Name For Your Niche
Choosing a domain name for your niche website is an important task. There are many internet marketing sites online and you need to choose a domain name relevant for your niche which will help you stand out from the crowd. With time and effort you should be able to come up with a good URL - web address.
Just as you carried out research on the keywords relevant to your niche, you need to check through your notes and see if you can come up with a relevant domain name.
Make it easy for your customers. Some domain names have hyphens, numbers or letters included, for example "food4u". These types of domains seem to be in vogue at the moment and whilst they look appealing they can be problematic.
For instance, if someone has seen the URL but not written it down, they may type in a different address such as "foodforyou" which then takes them to a completely different site to yours and you've lost a potential customer.
The domain name you choose for your website or blog should be as short as possible ensuring that it's easier to remember.
In order to check if the name you've chosen is available just got to one of the many domain purchasing sites online. There are a number of reputable sites such as GoDaddy, HostGator and 123-reg.
Just type the name you have come up with into the search box and the website will soon let you know if it's available.
If it isn't you will usually be given some alternative choices. However, some of the alternatives will not always be suitable but don't despair!
You can always try adding a prefix or suffix to your keywords. Say you had wanted "dogwalking" as a domain and it wasn't available, try adding the word now at the end so it reads "dogwalkingnow"
Alternatively try putting the word happy at the front so it reads "happydogwalking". It's amazing how this sort of exercise can get your creative thought process going, so have some fun you'll be surprised at how many you come up with.
There is also an option to buy or bid for some domain names. Again, sites like GoDaddy will give you that information. So if your choice isn't available because someone else already has it, scroll down the page and it may list that it might be due for renewal or possibly for sale.
You will also see some unique names come up for sale or auction and these can be very expensive! In fact some very astute people bought domain names in the early years of the internet, hung onto them and are now reaping the rewards!
Once you've established that the domain you want is available, you then have to choose between.com, .co, .uk, .net etc. Your first choice should always be.net especially if you want customers worldwide. If that's not available I would go for.net.
Your next choice will be to decide on purchasing the domain for one or two years. Personally I usually choose the one year option as you will always get a renewal reminder anyway.
So, put your thinking cap on and create a fantastic domain name relevant to your niche and who knows, it might even be a great asset in the future.
