What Makes Harley Davidson the Motorcycle of Choice?

When most people hear the words "Harley Davidson", they instantly recognize the name of the most popular super heavy weight motorcycle on the market today. Chances are, they or someone close to them has, at one time or another, envisioned themselves seated at the helm of the motorcycle, winding blowing in their hair, the rumble of the distinctive engine in their ears, riding down Life's many highways without a care in the world. For many, Harley Davidson represents Freedom to pursue their dreams. Their Motorcycles have been around for a long time, and continue to be the industry leader today.

From its humble beginnings in a 10 by 15 foot shed in 1903 Milwaukee, Wisconsin, The Harley Davidson Motorcycles Company has grown into THE industry giant, with a well-earned reputation for only producing the finest 850+ cc motorcycles to be found on highways and race tracks today.

In 1903, 3 brothers, William D., Walter, and Arthur Davidson - and their friend, William S. Harley, built the world's first production Harley Davidson motorbike. It was designed to compete in the popular bike races of the day. In 1904, the first HD dealership opened in Chicago, Illinois and the rest, as they say, was history in the making.

"The Motor Company", as HD is popularly known, has an unmatched record of working to produce products their customers enjoy and are proud to own.

In 1952, returning U.S. servicemen appeared to prefer the lighter British model of motorcycles. Harley Davidson responded by creating the 45 c.i. side-valve "K" model. In 1958, they introduced rear suspensions on their Duo-Glide model. In 1965, the Duo-Glide model gained an electric starter and became known as The Electra-Glide. 1966 saw customers begging for more power. HD listened to them and updated the old "Panhead" motor with new shovel-shaped rocker boxes. As a result, the "Shovelhead" motor was born.

In 1971, Harley Davidson created the FX 1200 Super-Glide model, the company's first cruiser. In 1984, the Soft Tail was introduced. It was met with overwhelming customer enthusiasm. Once again with their customers in mind, 1992 saw HD equip almost all of their models with drive belts. The introduction of drive belts created a smoother, more enjoyable ride, and less maintenance headaches from constant re-lubrication, adjustment, and breakage.

Buying a Harley Davidson motorcycle is not merely the purchase of a motorcycle. It is an investment in an experience, a way of life. The Motorcycle Company's Mission Statement reads:

"WE FULFILL DREAMS THROUGH THE EXPERIENCES OF MOTORCYCLING, BY PROVIDING TO MOTORCYCLISTS AND TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AN EXPANDING LINE OF MOTORCYCLES AND BRANDED PRODUCTS AND SERVICES IN SELECTED MARKET SEGMENTS."

HD continuously strives to provide their customers with a product that not only meets, but also exceeds their expectations, and to provide excellent value for their customers money no matter where they are. With attention to detail, quality production over quantity, and excellent customer service, Wildcat Harley Davidson owners know that they have made a wise investment that will continue to give them superb enjoyment for many years to come.

Who would have guessed that the vision of four young men from humble backgrounds in 1903 would have grown beyond anything they have ever hoped to accomplish? HD has become a distinctively American icon. With more than 1,000 dealerships open worldwide, This Harley Davidson Company enjoys a solid reputation of being customer oriented and customer satisfaction driven. It is conceivable that the brand could produce more motorcycles annually than they currently do, but why would they? By focusing their vision on quality rather than solely on production numbers, they have ensured that they are only producing quality products they can be relied upon to consistently perform to their customer's high standards and to always exceed their expectations.
